Valentino, Retrospective: Past/Present/Future - Edited

Really fortunate to attend Valention's exhibition (on the first day) and I'm really amazed by all his work/design and all. All the details on the dress were hand sew on (beading/ layers...ect) and took 3-6 seamstress to complete it in 3 weeks !! Awesome awesome awesomeeee!!!

Valentino Facts:

Valentino’s love for fashion manifested when he was in primary school, and the interest grew into a burning passion, leading him to pursue it in Paris at just 17.

In 1959, he left Paris and opened his own couture house in Rome. For his first fashion show, he pulled out all the stops; every aspect of his show was grand, complete with models flown in from Paris for his first show, in bright red dresses. The brightly hued dresses would later be coined by the fashion industry as “Valentino red”, and became his signature colour.

One of Valentino’s famous clients is Jacqueline Kennedy. In 1964, she commissioned Valentino to design a complete wardrobe to mark the end of her mourning for her husband. In fact, Valentino presented his famous “White collection” in 1968, in which Jacqueline Kennedy chose the dress from for her marriage to Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis.

In addition, Valentino was also the couturier of the world’s most famous actresses in the 1960s: Elizabeth Taylor, Rita Hayworth and even Audrey Hepburn. Since then, many of the rich and famous have walked red carpets the world over, dressed in Valentino.

Valentino’s last haute couture show in 2008 saw a return of many renowned models, including Eva Herzigova, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Nadja Auermann, Karolina Kurkova and Karen Mulder. Velentino’s work is now carried on by his successors.

A normal haute couture dress would easily come up to S$500,000 (I suck at math, not sure if I get it right, but its half a million alright)
And the V dress above wore by Julia Roberts is priceless. Or rather, any dress wore by someone famous will be priceless. Amazing.

Yup will update more on my Valentino trip tmr.. Gonna zzz now cos I just sprain my neck -__-
Super clumsy me ): i need baby to help me massage pretty pls babylove ): Super pain now can't turn right anymoreeeeee. This sucks

(Note to Tingwen: Maybe this blog is benifical for you. We got assignment to do, remind me to give you the paper when you're back k!)

Got student discount(: If you pay by creditcard also got discount.

Yes Valentino exhibition is here in Singapore and I'm fortunate to attend it on the first day (: Too bad that Tingwen was away, if not she would see the long, gorgeous, flowing Valentino gowns. Not just any gowns, but one-of-a-kind, custom-fitted haute couture gowns worn by celebrities and other famous people. Up close!!
I can totally walk right up and feel (and smash right up into the glass). Oh and their glass ... specially made with the correct temperature and light. (They have dim light in the room, no photography what so ever, even without the flash, quite sad uh) Heard from the guide that he actually saw the real piece without the glass. I think is due to Sg's humidity level so they are not allow to display it without the glass...

The exclusive exhibition featuring haute couture looks from Valentino’s early works – designed by founder Valentino Garavani himself – to present-day creations – by current Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli.

All the clothes detail and all...
was sewn by hand, even the side seams. Pretty amazing. One normal haute couture dress would need 3 to 6 seamstress and would be done in 3 weeks!! (That is if I get my facts right, I scribble alot in my notebook)

There are like 17 themes in the total collections. Eg of them are the Floral theme (which is the first theme), white collection, red, surface brilliant (beading with great details), lines and shapes, budellini, transparency, animal prints ect..

Our "tour guide" explaining Valentino's timeline. He's a political science student but yet interested in fashion. Totally no like right.

EXCITED!

Mr Valentino's timeline. He's born in 1932 all the way till he retire at 2007.
His last showcase at 2008

Valentino's dress worn by famous people. Due to the low lighting thus the blury picture ): Even photoshop didn't help much. Why my camera doesn't have a low-lighting functionnnnn ):

Pop corns!! <3 Teacher's treat!!

It's a nice experience to be able to have this trip. Sort of once in a lifetime. Thought we may not even get to wear or touch the cloth but at least I've seen it before, right in my face.

Pfft my neck still hurts lah ):
