Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition (Singapore)

Couple of months ago, I happened to saw an advertisment on this exhibition and I was like "OMG, I MUST VISIT IT". So I messaged Kenny and the next thing I knew, we were there. I'm soooooooo excited about it.

A background information about RMS Titanic:
On 15 April 1912, the RMS Titanic met an untimely end when it sank after colliding with an iceberg in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean. The accident claimed the lives of over 1,500 passengers, who brought with them hopes that were never realised and dreams that never came true.

Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition features 275 artifacts recovered from the Ship's wreckage. It was really an emotional and unique experience for us. I left the exhibition with a heavy heart 'cos during that time nobility and rich lives while the poor suffer. There's a board at the end that listed all (most of) the names and whole chunk of survivors are from the first class. Life's unfair.

Oh anyway. Photography are not allowed in the exhibition but I saw people snapping away. Just be alert lah.

A showcase of replica 1st class hallway. I'm like omg, I felt that I'm actually INSIDE titanic.
I couldnt hold back my excitement and touched every thing. Lol.

That the 1st class room looked like.
A 3rd class ticket on Titanic to New Tork cost $40 ( about $900 today) and a 1st class is $4,500 for a price of a luxuary suite (around $103 000 totay)

Kenny and his 3rd class hallway. Not very impressive. Heh.
If you're wondering why I wrote "his 3rd class" and "my 1st class" it's because we were given a replica boarding ticket with the names of the passenger and what class they belonged to.
Like I said, you are supposed to figure out whether they survived or they don't. ( most probably survived if you're from 1st class)

3rd class passengers traveling on Titanic were mostly European immigrants looking for better life in America.
A 3rd class cabin would likely be occupied by up to four strangers who spoke different languages.

On the night of April 14, 1912, the waters of the North Atlantic were below freezing close to 28 degrees Fahrenheit(about -2.2 degrees Celsius). Becuase salt water freezes at a lower temperature than freshwater, the saltwater ocean was colder that night that this freshwater iceberg.
As a result, most of those lost during Titanic's sinking did not die from drowning.
They died from hypothermia- rapid mental and physical collapse that accompanies the lowering of body temperature.

You can read this, I'm not gonna type it out 'cos its too gek xim ):
Claimed to be the "Unsinkable" ship hence reduced to 20 lifeboat and during the Ship's disaster only TWO of the lifeboats were filled to capacity, all the otheres carried fewer than they could have. Most of the lifeboat launched with just 19 of the possible 65 people on board. THEY COULD SAVED EXTRA 46 PEOPLE!!!
Not forgetting that only first 2 were filled to capacity. So if I used 46 * 18 = 828 PEOPLEEEEEE??
Not to mention that lifeboat comes in different sizes, the first seven lifeboats to launch carried a mere 160 out of a possible 430....WHATTTTT? ): ): ):

Last few photo before I end this post. This exhibition showcase not just the rooms, iceberg and all. They've a replica Titanic's deck, boiler room, the famous grand staircase.
I regretted not taking (professional = need to pay lah) photos at the grand staircase.

As you can see that the ones we saw in the movie is not 100% correct.
Oh, you can visit http://www.chasingthefrog.com/reelfaces/titanic.php for more facts about Titanic.
Quite interesting actually. Really amazed by how the "Reel" and "Real" faces looked sooooo alike!!!

Another interesting and heart wrenching scenes from Titanic.

Did some of the passengers choose to go down with the ship?

http://www.chasingthefrog.com/reelfaces/titanic/isaida.jpg

Yes. Near the end of the movie Titanic, we see an old couple embracing in bed as water pours into their cabin. The couple is first class passengers Isador and Ida Straus (left). Isador was the co-owner of Macy's department store. In real life, Isador and Ida were both offered a place on Lifeboat No. 8, but Isador chose to stay on the Titanic so long as there were women who remained on the ship. Ida refused to abandon her husband. Witnesses on the deck and in Lifeboat No. 8 heard Ida tell her husband, "We have been living together for many years. Where you go, I go." The couple was last seen sitting on a pair of deck chairs (not lying in bed like in the movie). Only Isador's body was recovered and identified.

and also the aftermath of the Titanic disaster. Thumbs up for this exhibition and I really enjoyed it. Not really happy enjoy but you get to understand how it happens and what they did to prevent it (NONE!)
Sigh. What can I say? This is humanity.
